A First Course in Formal Concept Analysis How to Understand Line Diagrams
نویسنده
چکیده
SUMMARY This paper introduces the main ideas of Formal Concept Analysis in a very elementary way without using formal mathematical definitions. It leads the reader to an understanding of an important technique of graphical knowledge representation namely the line diagrams of concept lattices. As a short application some aspects of conceptual learning using attribute exploration are described. In the second part we introduce the method of conceptual scaling by an example and the use of nested line diagrams, the main tool for the graphical representation of multivariate data.

Concept Lattices for Information Visualization: Can Novices Read Line-Diagrams?
Mail-Sleuth is a personal productivity tool that allows individuals to manage email and visualize its contents using line diagrams. Based on earlier work on the Conceptual Email Manager (Cem), a major hypothesis of Mail-Sleuth is that novices to Formal Concept Analysis can read a lattice diagram. Since there is no empirical evidence for this in the Formal Concept Analysis literature this paper ...
متن کاملObject Oriented Concepts Identification from Formal B Specifications
This paper addresses the graphical representation of static aspects of B specifications, using UML class diagrams. These diagrams can help understand the specification for stakeholders who are not familiar with the B method, such as customers or certification authorities. The paper first discusses some rules for a preliminary derivation of a class diagram. It then studies the consistency of the...
متن کاملPower Imbalance in Collaboration Relationships
Power plays a significant role in many organizational theories such as resource dependency theory and transaction cost economics. It allows the strong companies to win more than others, or more broadly, to coerce others to do what they would not otherwise do. Power can seriously affect the confidence and commitment between parties. This paper aims to analyze the power concept in inter-organizat...
متن کاملPlanarity of Additively Drawn Concept Lattices
In Formal Concept Analysis, it is a very important but quite difficult task to draw line diagrams of concept lattices automatically. In particular, we want every planar lattice to be visualized without edge crossings. Many algorithms ignore that fact or find plane diagrams only heuristically. We present a characterization of planar lattices based on the theorem of Baker, Fishburn and Roberts [1...
متن کاملHow DoesStrawson Unify Epistemology, Ontology and Logic
Strawson’s conception of analysis as a ‘connective linguistic analysis’ makes it possible for him to achieve an indefinitely large range of ideas or concepts among them are certain numbers of fundamental, general and pervasive concepts or concept-types which not only are pre-theoretical or ahistorical, but also together constitute a structural framework only within whichlogic, ontology and epis...
